José Alexandre Scheinkman
Professor of Economics at Columbia and Princeton Universities
Charles and Lynn Zhang Professor of Economics at Columbia University and Theodore A. Wells ‘29 Professor of Economics (emeritus) at Princeton University. Previously, Scheinkman was the Alvin H. Baum Distinguished Service Professor and Chairman of the Department of Economics at the University of Chicago, Blaise Pascal Research Professor (France) and a Vice President in the Financial Strategies Group of Goldman, Sachs & Co. He has served as consultant to several financial institutions and is a member of the board of directors of Cosan Limited. Mr. Scheinkman was born in Brazil and is a naturalized citizen of the U.S. He has a Masters in mathematics from Instituto de Matemática Pura e Aplicada (Brazil) and a PhD in economics from the University of Rochester. Mr. Scheinkman is a Member of the National Academy of Sciences (USA), Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, Corresponding Member of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences, and recipient of a John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Fellowship and of a “doctorat honoris causa” from the Université Paris-Dauphine.
