Stone is a leading provider of financial technology solutions that empower merchants and integrated partners to conduct electronic commerce seamlessly across in-store, online, and mobile channels. Stone has developed a deep client-centric culture that seeks to delight our clients rather than to simply provide them with a solution or service. Stone serves clients of all sizes and types that transact online, offline or have an omni-channel sales approach. Stone also serves many integrated partners, which use or embed Stone’s solutions into their own offerings to enable their customers to conduct commerce more conveniently.

We have used technology to revolutionize the market, integrating payment methods, banking, and software into innovative solutions that are game changing for microentrepreneurs, small medium, and large businesses. Our focus is on the customer, and it’s because of them that we maintain the high standard of service that is our recognized differentiator. Since 2012, we have empowered businesses of all sizes to have more control, more freedom, and more time. But we continue to move forward. We are just getting started.

Our History
2012
We were born
With the end of the duopoly in the card market, Stone was born to challenge the giants and change the financial market. In a small office on Quitanda Street in Rio de Janeiro, we began developing a more humanized customer service, less bureaucratic, more transparent, and innovative for small and medium-sized businesses.
2013
We gained the acquirer license
Our dream of operating in the payment market is about to become a reality: Stone gains the acquirer license from Visa and Mastercard. Pagar.me, a fintech focused on small businesses and startups, is incorporated and becomes part of our ecosystem.
2014
The first transaction
After 2 years of structuring, Stone starts its operations in the payment market, offering cheaper services to merchants, breaking barriers, and freeing businesses from traditional banks
2015
1 million TPV and the opening of the first hub
Technology and product – done! But distribution was still a barrier: we didn’t want to be restricted to the big cities. This is when the Cabo Frio hub was born, the first of many. We invested in Equals, the largest reconciliation company in Brazil.
2016
Acquisition of Elavon and the first S.O. of the Green Angels
We acquired Elavon, changing our market presence and becoming the 4th largest player in Brazil. This was also the year when our Angels went into action: the first service order from the team was on February 19th, 2016.
2017
We officially became StoneCo
With 2,896 passionate people and more than 130,000 clients, we brought together all the companies in the ecosystem and officially became StoneCo. United, our culture gained strength and more identity. Our space and our values put our green color on the place it deserves.
2018
We entered the capital markets
We had our IPO in the USA. On October 25th, 2018, we gathered nearly 200 people in New York for the bell-ringing ceremony, led by Mineiro, our first customer. After four years of operation, we had acquired 200,000 clients and about 5% of the country’s acquirer market.
2019
Much more than just a POS machine
Building our dreams even further, we launched our first national TV campaign, proudly showcasing our concepts and values. Along with this growth and visibility, we also launched a new product: the Stone Account.
2020
Ton, Credit, and Linx
Through a partnership with Grupo Globo, Ton was born, focusing on helping freelancers and micro-entrepreneurs with their growth challenges. We launched the credit product, one of the biggest challenges we’ve faced to this day and still continue to work on. We negotiated the acquisition of Linx, one of Brazil’s leaders in retail management software.

2021
Linx is now StoneCo, and our story became a book
After ten months of waiting, the deal was approved by Cade, and Linx became part of our ecosystem. We reached 750,000 clients and became a company of 15,000 people. Following a regulatory change in our market, we faced another significant challenge as a registrar. We released the book “5 Seconds: The Stone Way of Serving the Customer.”
2022
We completed 10 years of StoneCo
We celebrated a decade of history and set our commitments for the next 5 years. We increased our knowledge in sales channels and launched Tap Ton, a financial solution to turn the cell phone into a POS machine using NFC technology. We also expanded our scale in software.
2023
We turned things up in Stone mode
We made our debut as sponsors of Big Brother Brazil and Formula 1, reaching 3.3 million clients. We introduced Pix in the POS, resumed our credit offering, and launched Stone credit cards, Ton debit cards, and the Super Ton Account. We received our first excellence seal from ABF and opened our 400th hub. We advanced in software integration with our first “MODO POSTO” offering and painted NASDAQ green again during our first Investor Day.
2024
We reached 4 million clients
In the third quarter of 2024, we reached 4 million clients. We also debuted in the ranking of Brazil’s Most Valuable Brands by Interbrand. In the publication, they highlighted our culture and the alignment of the company as the driving forces behind the brand becoming a reference in empathy and agility. Since the beginning, we dreamed big and kept persisting without losing sight of our purpose. Today, as we look at each stage of our path, we feel proud and are sure we are on the right path.
